When the Brunners fell in love with Blue Grouse Winery, they fell hard. As we all know, making relationships work takes dedication, patience, and a lot of emotional investment. For Blue Grouse, this labor of love included a rebranding of the wine, a new website, and a new destination winery.

Our architects found inspiration for the building’s shape in our namesake, the Blue Grouse. The lovely curve of the grouse’s head and neck inspired the roofline. Inside the tasting room, a curved ceiling reminds visitors of a grouse’s belly, and the new entrance will highlight a beautiful shade of blue from the grouse’s tail feathers. Using Vancouver Island products including locally quarried stone and geothermal energy will keep us accountable to Mother Nature as well.



Nestled in a hillside among the Blue Grouse vines is a quaint, European-style tasting room. Wait. Scratch that. It’s a Canadian-style tasting room, and it’s right at home in Vancouver Island’s Cowichan Valley. This was the Kiltz family home, where Hans used the basement and garage as his winery. Today, we call it The Manor House, and think it should be a required stop on any wine tasting tour.

Do you have a covey of friends who want to visit Blue Grouse? We encourage reservations for groups of six or more. That way we can ensure that we have a member of our knowledgeable staff dedicated to guiding your party through a tasting of five or more of our award-winning wines. At Blue Grouse we really like to eat…no, trust us, we really like to eat, and we really like to eat local. Our winemaker has been active in the “farm to table” movement for 20 years and we do what we can to support the efforts of local food producers.
